SHOOTING THE LOOPPage 2by Skip Lowery |

My friends and I would ride our one speed Schwinns around The Loop on Saturdays. After we got a few blocks north of Granada, we saw maybe a dozen cars the entire journey. As an adult I would show off The Loop to visiting friends and relatives. They had, they said, seen nothing like it. |

The problem was how to do justice to it as a photographer. To capture the landscape with little loss of sharpness in the prints, I decided to use a large format camera. But such a camera, and the tripod to support it, are awkward to handle. I had to choose my locations carefully because to move meant starting all over again. That’s why you won’t see birds or animals in the photographs. They would be long gone by the time I could set up the equipment. |
